The "Chops Builders" routines are focused, high-impact practice sessions designed to take your technique to the next level. These routines isolate specific skills and provide a structured path to build the "chops" needed for clean, controlled, and confident playing.
Each session is crafted to help you develop essential muscle memory, precision, and consistency in your playing—without the pressure to increase speed prematurely. This approach allows players at any skill level (beyond complete beginners) to benefit from these routines and progress quickly, as the tempo will always be set to what you can play perfectly.
I can't emphasize "perfect" enough. From my own experience and that of countless students, the most common technical issue stems from the habit of pushing speed before readiness. My advice is simple: always focus on 100% control and flawless execution during any repeated exercise. Once you've done the work, you can "push" the speed during improvisation or when playing your favorite licks.
In other words, DO NOT increase the speed during your core practice. Save that for fun afterward, and you’ll enjoy the best of both worlds: precise technique and freedom to explore speed without compromising accuracy.
There’s a reason that the world’s top classical virtuosos recommend practicing slooooowly—it’s the most effective way to build, refine, and maintain a high level of technique.
